Darcy LaChance

Head Trainer

Darcy LaChance has spent her entire life riding and learning from horses. She's dedicated to the sport but more importantly she is dedicated to listening to each horse as an individual and helping and encouraging them to grow into the incredible athletes that she knows they can be. She encourages their spirit while excelling their training and focusing on their happiness. Horses have shaped Darcy's entire life and in return she has promised to dedicate her life to these horses.

Darcy was born around horses and started formal lessons at 3 years old with Jeri O’keefe, a well known and accomplished hunter/jumper and 3 day event rider/trainer in the area. At the age of 8, Darcy started training internationally with the Bowen family in Ontario, Canada, learning the ropes and ins and outs of a breeding farm. This included developing and bringing along young horses not just for the hunter/jumper ring but also for dressage, eventing, fox hunting, and driving. It was here that Darcy’s passion of riding, and not just competing, was really fueled and developed. Under the continued guidance of the Bowen family, at just age 12 Darcy started her first horse under saddle and the rest was history.

At home Darcy continued riding with Jeri O’keefe and would travel back to Canada every school break and summer to learn as much as she could. At 20 years old, she moved to Canada to continue her young horse development training and start working towards her new goals in the show ring. It was at this time that the Bowen’s introduced her to Derek “Ricky” Thompson who would end up being the most influential coach for bringing young horses along through the levels of jumping. Ricky helped fine tune Darcy in the tack while helping the horses tap into their full potential and abilities over fences. Over the course of her time living in Canada, she brought along multiple horses in the jumper ring, developing them to compete and eventually find their new homes. During that time, she also spent time riding under Rob Carey and Mac Mcquaker, both very accomplished riders in the hunter and jumper rings. In 2016, Darcy moved back home and rode competitively for a year before taking some time off to focus on her own horses.

This past March, we welcomed Darcy as our head trainer due to this extensive background in young horse development and working with a large variety of breeds. Darcy has spent her entire life riding and learning from horses. She's dedicated to the sport but more importantly she is dedicated to listening to each horse as an individual and helping and encouraging them to grow into the incredible athletes she knows that they can be. She encourages their spirit while excelling their training and focusing on their happiness. Horses have shaped Darcy's entire life and in return she has promised to dedicate her life to these horses.

From starting or bringing along young and green horses to working with problem horses or fine tuning broken ones, Darcy is available for training or jumping lessons!
